Back at it

Sorry this is a long one.
There was a time before I was married when I was getting up at 6:oo every morning to go for a run (because I really love to run)......Then I'd go to work for 8 hours....come home, spent time with Brett or my girlfriends, and never went to bed before 1:00am. I ran 1/2 marathons, a marathon, and went on long runs every weekend. Since I've been married, I can't seem to get out of bed before 7:00 am.....I'm lucky if I run 3 times a week......still go to work for 8 hrs.....I come home and I'm wiped out and in bed by 11:00. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??? I've lost my drive, my motivation. I used to love running and it was by far the most productive and enjoyable exercise for me. Why can't I just get up, out, and run?
Well, I've figured it out......It's hard to get out of bed at 6 in the morning to go for a run when you know your husband will be sleeping soundly until 8. It's hard knowing that when you get back, he'll probably be gone for the day and you won't see him until 6 or 7 pm that night. So I gradually quit waking up early to go run. I tell myself "I'll go after work," which actually happens 50% of the time because it's even harder to leave your husband at night when you haven't seen each other ALL day, just to go for a run, when really all you want to do is relax with your hubby. I guess this is a newlywed thing:)
This is how I went from running almost every day......to running MAYBE 3 times a week, and my runs got shorter too.
Well, I've learned that for both Brett and myself....it's better if I just get up and run! It's better for me because 1) I have more energy throughout the day, 2) it allows me to clear my mind, and 3) I feel better about myself when I'm in shape and my jeans fit. This is better for Brett because 1) I'm more energetic, 2) my head is clear and I'm not crazy, and 3) I'm much more pleasant when my jeans fit!
So I've snapped out of it. I've started running again.....This Saturday I'm running the Hobblecreek half marathon. I know, it's not the smartest way to get back into it..... I'll kill my legs and have bloody blisters on my feet, but darn-it, I'm doin' it!!!

Kristy,
Thanks for the gift certificate. That's my go to store and I love it. I did the same thing when I was first married. It's still hard for me to leave John at night because that's our time so I run in the morning too. I have a love/hate relationship with running because although I love it the first five minutes I HATE it. That's really when I clear my mind too. You are like super-runner woman Miss 8 minute marathon girl. That still blows my mind. Good luck on the half maraathon. You'll kill it no problem.

I remember before the Brett days, when you were still and innocent college roomie of mine and you still ran every morning! You seemed to roll out of bed and be peppy and go running for what seemed like forever! Marriage does that to you, priorties change and suddenly you're content with sitting.

Kristy I always knew you were one of those crazy runners!!jk yt hnhgghbn b nb n bnbn bn b vv bv v b h jhjyy..... That was from your dear neice gracelyn! Anyway back to running! I think exercising looses its place for a while after you get married... But its true you begin to feel really gross and then you have to snap out of it! And lets be honest you will run the marathon no sweat! I wish I was in any kind of shape to run a half marathon but Im pretty sure my hopes and dreams of running that long are dwindling! You will do great! talk to you soon!

just sitting here laughing at you! the workout/running debate doesn't seem to get better with kids either! in college I used to work out at night...sometimes really late. it would never work to leave ry and the kids like that anymore (not to mention even staying awake.) for what it's worth totally support you in going for the early morning workout - it just feels better in the am and gets done for the day! you're awesome - good luck in the 1/2 marathon.

I could seriously copy and paste this post verbatim over to my blog (minus the running a half marathon this weekend part!). I hear you sister. I also want to know why I could stay up until 3 am in college and get up at 7 or 8 and be completely fine and now I am dying if I am not in bed by 11!
